As the tax deadline quickly approaches, the IRS’s call center has extended its hours to help assist taxpayers. As it is an extremely busy time of the year, you may want to check to see if your question can be answered online at IRS.gov before calling in.
If you do need to call in, however, their toll-free lines will also be available on the Saturdays of April 8th and 15th, from 9AM to 5PM, and the number to reach them is 1-800-829-1040.
Remember that the tax deadline has been moved to April 18th this year for two reasons. The usual deadline date of the 15th falls on a Saturday, and taxpayers are normally given until the following Monday when this happens. However, this year Emancipation Day, an observed holiday in the District of Columbia, falls on Monday, April 17th. Because DC holidays impact tax deadlines for everyone, the deadline was moved to April 18th. For those requesting an automatic six-month extension, the deadline Monday, October 16, 2017.
